Trauma-Informed Practice - Safe, Supportive and Self-Regulated Classrooms

Within this PD session, I received information and tools to help provide safe, supportive and self-regulated environments for students who have experienced trauma. I was also provided with background information on trauma and its effects on the child and adolescent brain, how to create trauma-informed environments and how to help build resilience and self-regulation skills in students.

This PD sessions is a contributing factor into why trauma-informed education is so heavily utilized within my teaching philosophy.

This PD session offered a variety of teaching on different Indigenous Ways of Knowing such as topics including terminology related to identity, recognition of territory, significant ancestral landscapes related to locations of celebrations and traditions that come to life through song and dance, addressing myths and misconceptions, and a brief historical timeline.

Classroom Management - What Works

Within this workshop, we reviewed what classroom management is and why it is important, starting with the impact of positive and authentic relationships. From there, I learned about different ways of looking at rules, routines, procedures and strategies. The overall goal of the PD seminar was to help participants create classrooms in which both the students and the teachers can be successful.
